Welcome to seventh grade world history!   This is going to be a fun and interesting class that will take students from the Acropolis in ancient Greece to the Forum in Rome, to fighting in the Crusade and aboard the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria with Columbus.  There is much to be covered in this school year and we will work hard to accomplish it!

Technology!

A big part of our curriculum this year will be taught using technology.  While this class is not completely paperless, it is largely paperless.  Students are allowed to bring their own devices, so please take advantage of this!   It will help students to get much of their work completed in school.

Remember- BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE!!!
Electronic Portfolio

Throughout the school year students will be expected to create an electronic portfolio that displays, not only the content they learned in World Studies, but also the work they produced in their other classes.  This will be a yearlong project and hopefully students will understand the benefit of their portfolio and add to it each year.  The learning goals of the electronic portfolios:

1. To show student growth
2. To help students reflect on their learning
3. To celebrate student success
4. To help students gain familiarity with using different sources of technology.

Time Capsule

At the beginning of the year, students will be asked to bring in a Pringles container.  This container will be used as student time capsules.  Each month, students will be asked to bring in an item to put in the time capsule that reflects on their past and present life experiences.  My goal as a teacher is to help students understand that their history is important and the time capsules are a way for the students to record their history.  The time capsules will be "sealed" at the end of 7th grade and students will be asked to pick them up when they are seniors.

About the Teacher

My name is Kristin Castrilla.  This is my 13th year teaching.  I am so excited to be teaching my favorite subject, world history.  I have two children, Charlotte (Charlie)  who is five and starting kindergarten this year and Will who is turning three on Halloween and full of energy.  My husband Adam is a principal in Euclid.  My goal this year is to make each student in the classroom love history as much as I do!
